almost 1 year...

yes, it will be almost 1 year since i last blogged.

lots of things have happened (as they usually do).

this blog is not dead, lets say its in a coma. or hibernating.

i think i have more time now. just ask my farmville neighbors.

i will try to retake the blog, maybe someone is still following...

so here i am again, after another long break on bloggin'.
Life has been busy lately. My mom was just here (also Aunt and little cousin).
We did a lot of day trips! and Baby was super well behaved! She's enjoying the train rides i think, just dont put her in one of those "quiet wagons" and we're good (they have quiet wagons where you can not even use you ipod, so a crying (or even just babling) baby is out of the question.
We went to Bern, Stockhorn, Lausanne and Chateau Chillon, Zurich and other places. I do have a lot of stories to tell, but since it takes me so long to blog, i'll just spill them here quickly:
-Aunt got her wallet stolen (out of her purse) in Zurich!! we went to the polizei, reported and cancelled credit card, and thankfully her passport was not stolen (nor her train pass).
-We went to Lausanne to eat a sanwich by the lake... the plan was to go to the Olympic museum, but we never made it. We were starving (no lunch and already 5pm) and we stopped to buy a quick bite, and between metro rides and walks... we ran out of time and just got back on the train and went home to Thun. It was a great day anyways.

I am addicted to facebook. find me there! I am also on twitter, but dont use it as much.

I am starting to make new friends in Thun. It has been hard mostly because it is a small town and not so many foreigners (i dont think).

We are talking about going to mexico for christmas.

We finally registered Baby as Mexican, and her passport should be here by july. (did i mention that already...?)

We got a new computer (24" iMac) and I LOVE IT!!

Baby finally takes a pacifier: Soothie for newborn, i recommend it!

Finally, after what seems like an eternity, I am writing here again!
Looks like Adri was right: there’s nothing but baby after you have a baby. No blog, no sleep, no rest. Just baby. But only for the first few months. Now things are easier, and I am feeling like I can start blogging again.
So much has happened (besides popping out a baby in December…).
Lets see… WE MOVED!
We no longer live in the glorious, awesome city of Zurich (can you tell I miss it?). We now live in the canton of Bern, in a small(ish) town called Thun, with great outdoor activities, a lake, and mountains. It is very close to Bern (20 mins by train) so I am not totally disconnected from civilization, but is it small enough that I am having a hard time finding and making new friends… for me and for Baby. Gera started working at EMPA, doing research. Don’t ask more, ‘cause more I don’t really know. But I know he likes it, it is (supposedly) temporary (a couple of years…)… then we’ll see.

Although Baby has her own blog, I cannot not talk about her here, so here I go: She is BIG! She’s 4 months old, and wears size 1 year clothes. She stands up (with help, of course), and she will start solids soon. She refused the bottle for the longest time, until mommy got a bit sick and milk was not very abundant, then she found a bottle she liked and now we do formula to “complement” (that’s what they call it, I cal it fill her up”). She is very regular on her naps, one at 9am, one at 1 pm, and then at 5pm. She goes down for the night at 7 or 8pm, and wakes up at 7 or 8 am with a couple of feedings in between. Shes doing great! She is totally a mini-Gera.

We just bought a new computer! Finally!! I’ve had Matilda (yes, my laptop has a name, thanks to our dear friend Kate) for 5 years. She’s lasted all this time, but I was time for a new one, specially for all the baby pics and vids. It should arrive sometime next week, I’ll keep you posted.

I just had a visit from my inlaws, who were here over easter. With them, we went to Interlaken, Lauterbrunen, and Bern. (pics and stories later). I must say Interlaken is beautiful, lauterbrunen was windy and bern was… well, Bern (been there, done that).
A few days after my inlaws, left, my sister came!! So many visitors! She was here for only a week, but we had a great relaxed time. We only took one day trip to Geneve, and the rest of the time we took lots of naps, and just stayed home. Geneva was great, although we were there on a Sunday for just over 3 hours and saw enough to say “I’ve been to Geneva”. The cathedral, old town, lake, United Nations… Maybe there is more, but we felt our trip was a success. Baby slept the entire time we were there!
My mom is next on the visitors list. She has her ticket and is coming at the end of may. Hopefully my aunt will come with her, still undecided.

birth announcement

hello all,
finally after almost 2 months, here it is. I am officially announcing the birth of our baby.
About labor & birth: Labor started on the 23, and i went in the hospital around 1 pm. I got a big birthing room with an extra bed (which came in handy, since we stayed there overnight), and a jacuzzi (which i used but wasnt too thrilled about). I managed to go up to 6 or 7 cms before the epidural. After the epidural, the labor and contractions almost stopped, and had to be put on inducing drugs. Finally i was fully dialated after midnight, but the baby hadn't come down enough to start pushing. So we waited more than 3 hours after the doctors decided to used the vacuum to get her out. My sister (the doctor) was there and was keeping tabs on the procedures. Eventually Sofia was born right before 5 am, but i lost a lot of blood and had an "episode" (fainting, etc). A few hours later, we were all ok, only very tired. I stayed in the hospital for 3 days, I was really ready to come home.

We are now home, and since the weather hasnt been very nice, we dont go out much, except to the doctor and to the "baby check" appointments every week, where they weigh the baby and offer advice for new moms.

Sofia is very big, and has already outgrown a lot of her baby clothes. She is now wearing size 6 months! (for one-pc suits, since she is so long).

Things are getting easier, but we're still learning, so the blog will happen when it happens , hehe.
I've also set up a blog just for her, so this blog can be about something other than the baby (because there are other things besides the baby, right??!!)

update on things

sorry I havent blogged in a while.
I am super excited about everybody's predictions over on the expect.net site. I made a separate one with the family, this one for $$$. half of the "proceeds" will go to the winner, half for the baby.

I had a very lovely christmas dinner with my friends. We did a gift exchange, and i got a Body Shop gift card, which i already used to buy an awesome Manoi Oil (it smells great and it will help condition the skin before and after the baby). You can find pictures HERE.

I am now 39 weeks, 7 days to go. But by the look of things i am starting to think things will happen on (or even after) the due date. I havent felt anything "weird" yet, and so now we just wait.

Gera is "officially" on vacation and staying with me at home since monday. It is good to have him around. It makes me feel safer, and we can go walk a bit in the evenings (although i a sooo big i get very tired very quickly). He borrowed a wii from a friend who went on vacation, so he has plenty to keep him entertained. I say "enjoy it now, because we're putting that away when the baby comes" ;)

My sister Abril is coming on Sunday!! She will be here for almost a month. I am so super happy to see her, and have her with me for all this crazyness. She is a doctor (the kind that helps people, hehe. not the Ph kind, like Gera), and although she doesn't have any babies herself she has delivered many babies and I am sure she know at least how to hold them correctly (i am scared the baby will be too fragile and I'll break her or something...). She also just finished her diploma as a Pastry chef, so i dont think i will be loosing a lot of baby weight anytime soon! :)

Also, my Mom will be coming too!!! This is a VERY big deal in my family. My mom doesnt really like to travel, doesnt like flying, has never been to europe.... and she's doing all this to meet her first grandkid! I love her. This story will be le-gendary! She'll be here in January but only for a couple of weeks.

On other news, we're done with our xmas shopping. did it all online. gotta love super saver shipping! I even opened a cafepress shop in the process, although i havent added anything to it. I plan to do something with it later (after the dust settles).

A move is in the works... i will tell you where and when next year.

We have a name but have not "released" it yet. We are waiting for her to be born, and then we'll make it public. (it took so long to decide on one, that we thought might as well wait a few more weeks, no)

I think this will be my last post before the baby. I dont know how crazy things will be... i hope not too crazy... but rest assured that whenever i have time (and/or energy) i will post the labor story and pics and all the details.
